The Customs Brokerage Officer is accountable for ensuring compliance with all U.S. Customs and Border Protection rules and regulations. The person in this role will also be responsible for ensuring Landstar agents receive customs services from the Landstar team.  You will provide subject matter expertise to both internal and external partners as well as your team. You must currently hold an active Customs Brokerage license to be considered.

Qualifications

Required Minimum Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution

Or

  • 10 years in a Customs / Trade Compliance position

And

  • Current Customs Broker License with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)

Preferred Experience and Education:

  • Master’s degree
  • 2 years of staff management/leadership experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In depth knowledge of international trade regulations, customs laws and import/export procedures
  • Familiarity with FTZ, free trade agreements, in transit cargo, etc.
  • Ability to scale team and realize productivity gains
  • Knowledge of rolling out of new systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage customs brokerage team, including hiring, training and supervising staff
  • Provide proper guidance to internal teams, external agents and customers for new trade compliance regulations and update on laws and regulations.
  • Implement best work processes to support Landstar agents and customers
  • Oversee external broker operations for outsource processes
  • Evaluate external customs brokers for pricing, operations, compliance
  • Conduct regular audits of Landstar internal process to ensure compliance and adherence to laws and regulations
  • Provide regular KPI monitoring to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Work with Landstar agents to develop new customers
