The Role

Th The Customs and Trade Compliance Specialist will assist with all daily activities related to Cree’s import clearances to ensure compliance with all regulations. This individual will work closely with internal departments as well as external US Customs brokers and forwarders to ensure the accurate and efficient flow of shipments into the US. This role will fully support the Global Trade Compliance Manager in ensuring Cree’s imports and exports are handled in a world-class manner.

What you need for success:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio)
  • Thorough understanding of NAFTA and other global trade programs
  • Working knowledge of HTS/commodity classification process and INCOTERMS
  • Attention to detail and are accurate in execution of any task
  • Ability to complete complex tasks in creative and effective ways
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work autonomously, with minimal direction, and are self-motivated and results-driven
  • Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams and international environment
  • Excellent communication and effective interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organization, presentation and writing skills


What you can do for Cree?

  • Interact with customs brokers, suppliers, and service providers to ensure consistency with defined import/export processes and full compliance for all transactions
  • Provide support with Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) number classifications
  • Resolve questions and provide information to custom brokers as needed for timely Customs clearance
  • Establish and oversee internal audit processes to test compliance with internal policies as we as all applicable laws, regulations, and rules
  • Support in the development and presentation of export related training materials
  • Collaborate with cross-functional business units on key deliverables to mitigate risk and meet deadlines
  • Establish working relationships across the organization
  • Play a significant role in the success of Cree’s supply chain
